Bacon Wrapped Stuffed Jalapeños
Sunbrella Goes Green
One Little Rug, One Big Impact
The arrival of warmer temperatures brings a new season of outdoor grilling. Sharing conversation with the grill chef, enjoying your favorite beverage, and snacking on some pre-dinner appetizers is exactly what most of us need after a long, cold, nearly never-ending winter.

Bacon Wrapped Stuffed Jalapeños are just the thing for this time of year-the heat from the pepper will help take the edge off an early spring evening. Visit casuallivingsc.com/jalapenos.html for the recipe. Enjoy!

April 6 has been set aside by Congress as National Tartan Day to recognize the contributions of the Scottish people to the settlement and development of America. Scottish and Irish settlers have left an indelible mark on the southern region of  the US. If you listen to bluegrass and early country western music, you can hear the echos of Scottish and Irish music.

Because of the many Scottish and Irish descendants in South and North Carolina, April 3-6 Columbia will host the 4th annual Tartan Day South. Celebrating tartan wearing cultures and all things Celtic, 4 days of activities will feature music, dance, athletic competitions,  story telling, shopping, food, herding, swordplay and bird of prey demonstrations, and, of course, men in kilts. Bagpipes will be playing and everyone will be Celtic for the weekend.
For over 20 years, that most fabulous of all outdoor fabrics, Sunbrella, has made a point of being green. Glen Raven Mills, the parent company of the well-known Sunbrella brand, has taken a leadership role in protecting our environment. Their recycling program, Recycle My Sunbrella, allows the consumer to get involved in their recycling efforts by helping dispose of previously used, but no longer wanted, Sunbrella fabric.

The reclaimed fabric is repurposed into Sunbrella Renaissance Fabric which combines up to 50% post-industrial recycled Sunbrella fiber with virgin Sunbrella fiber. Fabric which does not get re-used in Renaissance Fabric, finds new life in a variety of products, from felt for car insulation and protective padding for sports equipment to decorative applications such as novelty yarns and outdoor rugs .

Sunbrella is a smart choice when selecting fabric for the Outdoorlicious! areas of your home. It's also a great choice for inside your home where durability, serviceability, and environmental concerns must be met.

Yes, Sunbrella is green but you will also find a varied array of colors that are fashionably current, such as the recent additions of Canvas Iris and Echo Sangria. Stylish... durable...green... what more cold you ask for?

Adding an Outdoor Area Rug to your outdoor room makes a big impact on the space. Visually, it helps take an outdoor room to another level of decoration that rivals the indoor rooms of your home. Architecturally, it helps define a space, which is often necessary in an outdoor room that does not have walls or other features to to define it. Practically, it adds warmth and softness under foot and encourages use of your outdoor room even in cooler temperatures.

In terms of material, the best yarn for outdoor rugs is 100% polypropylene, also known as olefin. This is a man-made fiber that naturally resists mildew and moisture retention. It is fade resistant; however, some manufacturers add UV
stabilizers to insure extra long life against the sun's strong rays.

Another thing to look for is whether there is a backing on the reverse side. Outdoor rugs with a backing are better used in a covered area as they will typically hold more moisture and, therefore, take longer to dry when they get soaked.

Outdoor rugs should not be used with a pad underneath. Adding a pad will hold moisture and contribute to mildew growth.

Beyond comfort and beauty, the best feature of an outdoor area rug is the serviceability. These outdoor rugs can be hosed off and left in the sun to dry. A little mild soap and water, if necessary, will take care of most dirt. In fact, outdoor rugs are so resistant to traffic and dirt that many are finding their way inside the house.
